Photographer's Note

On my way down to Switzerland I made a stop in Hanover, Germany, for a one-day-visit to CeBIT '05 - the worlds largest ICT Fair, where ICT stands for Information Communication Technology - to "get the spirit of tomorrow..."

Already outside the entrance I met that spirit, in the shape of a demonstration arranged by IG Metall - the German Metalworkers Trade Union - and Ver.di the worlds largest independent, individual trade union both very strong in Germany and with a swiftness for spectacular actions.

The demonstration was aimed at IBM and a protest against the notice to shut down factories in Hanover and Schweinfurt, meaning a loss of some 620 workplaces. Regarded as a 'spontaneous' demonstration some 250 voluntary participants had reacted to the summons - and they were also joined by some visitors to the fair.

After a brief stay I continued into the warm exhibition halls, but my visit there was a bit damped. Also Sweden was hit by the IBM plans, meaning closure of five facilities and 583 workers were noticed of redundancy. However I'll return to the fair itself in some later postings.

Today being May 1st, this posting seemed more adequate!

Image cropped, adjusted levels, adjusted saturation +15 and in red 10, ran NeatImage at 60%, resized for TE, sharpened and faded to 40%, framed and saved for Web.
