Photographer's Note

I really like this monument of the lady with two children on both her sides, tearing dramatically her clothes. I have no idea what the artist meant here. Is the lady simply tired of motherhood? Some people say that “the first forty years of parenthood are the toughest” … Maybe she is defending them from something. In fact, the tower on the right belongs to the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Dresden. August the Strong became Catholic to become the King of Poland. But the whole Dresden was Protestant. May be the lady is protesting against that, tearing her clothes in front of the Roman Catholic Cathedral. Standing between the tower of the Dresden Castle (in the left) and the tower of the church, she may illustrate the difficulty we people face trying to follow laws created by humans versus laws created by God himself. Maybe she is not torn between but rather squeezed between the two towers, two powers which leave her no space to breathe. In the modern language we could say that she is struggling to find the work-life balance.

To be honest, the reason she is so tightly squeezed is the consequence of the fact that I wanted to avoid the construction work happening just next to her, and this turned out to be a good angle for that.

good idea to get in close to avoid the construction. Love the flow, the movement, the way the clothing has so much real depth to it, amazing piece of hand crafted art. I wonder how it looks from the front as well. Excellent shot here. cheers

The close fit of all three elements of the photo works very well. The two towers look great in the sunlight, and you have captured all the details and texture of the statue. Excellent sharpness and depth of field.

Ideally, the photo also shows on the right a strip of blue sky between the monument and the tower of the cathedral. But I would be very happy if I had taken this picture.
It is a wonderful combination of art and architecture, presented very clearly and sharply.

You took this photo one day later than the photo I posted last night. I immediately recognised the two towers as Dresden. They are quite different in style and are nicely divided by the sculpture in the middle. The sharpness is impeccable. You had a wonderful and sunny day as well here. Great work.

Hello Mariusz,

From this angle, (which I like) I would day the mother is protecting her children. She is holding up her arms, to fend off someone or something, whilst the children appear to be peeping, from the safety of her skirt, at the f/g.

I really like this close-up!
The trio of features completely fill the frame; the statue is pin sharp, with a good sense of depth to the less sharp towers.

Wow ........ wonderful composition with this beautiful monument, that although we see it from behind it is fantastic with the folds and movement that its clothes give, the framing between the two towers is great, especially the tower of the cathedral it is beautiful.
Good perspective of the image, very pleasing to the eye.
