Photographer's Note

Frederick I aka Barbarossa (1122-1190) was Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1155 until 1190. German kings were travelling kings as there was no capital at that time. Frederick I stayed at least four times at his palace in my home town Sinzig, which acquired her nickname "Barbarossa's city" from that fact. Not to mention the four other cities claiming the same identity.

Sinzig celebrates its 750th anniversary in 2017, so 17 copies of Barbarossa's statue have been produced, set up all across the city and painted or decorated by different groups.

Barbarossa is standing on the very place where his palace was situated, overlooking Rhine and Ahr valleys. Building of St. Peter parish church started 35 years after his death, but I'm sure he would have liked it.
