Photographer's Note

Flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate 39.

After passing highway and railroad bridges at Sinzig, Ahr river flows through a nature reserve and is allowed to meander as she pleases.
Before the great floodings of July 2021, there was a 90 left turn, followed by a 180 right turn horseshoe und another 90 left turn before the river passed below the bike trail bridge (now destroyed) and joined Rhine river.
I had assumed the first bend to erode much further, thus approaching the tree-lined trail and perhaps achieve a breakthrough there.
The outcome really was that Ahr chose the direttissima, carved out her bed deeper, cut off the meander and let it fall dry, as seen here.
