Photographer's Note
This is the summit of Erbeskopf, Hunsrück uplands. With its 816,32 m, Erbeskopf is not only the highest mountain of Rhineland-Palatinate, but of all left Rhine bank territories of Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and northern France. The nearest higher summits can be found in the Vosges, Alsace, France, near Strasbourg.
The coordinates are 49° 43' 47.0" N, 7° 05' 23.0" E.
In the times of the cold war, Erbeskopf was almost completely restricted to the US military and bore three radoms for surveillance of the european air space far into the USSR.
The bronze silhouette in the center indicates the top of Rhineland-Palatinate.
