Photographer's Note
The filling station at the eastern entrance of Dernau village in Ahr valley was destroyed by the floods half a year ago.
The waves on the gable and the red marking on the right side of the house show the level reached by the water in the night of July 14/15, 2021. The floods damaged 500 of the 600 local houses.
Despite all odds, the locals show humour and adopt the motto of P...p dating portal: "Every 11 minutes a helper falls in love with Ahr valley"... :-))
Ahr river in the foreground is calm now. What seems to be a dam was once the embankment of Ahr valley railway line - which has totally disappeared.
