Photographer's Note

Taken in front of Ahrtor at Ahrweiler.

When I visited this site seven weeks ago, there was nothing: no bridge, no pedestrian bridge (a small pontoon bridge instead), an uncommon open view upstream (there used to be fine rows of high trees), huge piles of debris and 134 candles reminding us of the 134 deceased.

One dead woman has even been discovered in Rhine river at Rotterdam/Netherlands recently.

What you can see now? A bailey bridge constructed by THW (Technisches Hilfswerk) gives access by car and on foot to the southern parts of the town. The local school in a former nuns' convent became the emergency quarters for several drowned schools, so there is much traffic from students, for whom another pedestrian bridge has become available.

To be continued.
