Photographer's Note

Since summer 2018 Münster has a new attraction: in a deconsacrated baroque dominican church you can watch the earth rotating. Gerhard Richter, well known and admired contemporary artist, installed "Two grey double mirrors for a pendulum" . Foucault´s pendulum, nothing new, and we already knew that the earth is rotating. And to the left and right two mirrors, grey and shiny. And an uneducated person like me asks: What does it mean?
The journalist Hanno Rauterberg chose for his article in "Zeit"-Feuilleton the title: "God out - Art in", and in his last sentence he concluded : "His mystery is the inexplicability of art."
And Kulturbüro Münster says "Pendulum, mirror, the color grey, the once sacral room - "Two gray double mirrors for a pendulum" unites the 86-year-old artist's central positions to a masterpiece that makes the Dominican Church a new place for exchange and encounter."
Does it ???
The church is empty, no candles, no sculptures, no items of devotion, only the room is left and I was impressed by the beauty . It is really relaxing to sit or stand there and watch the movement of the pendulum, it takes several minutes before you can see that it swings some degrees further. Though I first thought : silly idea of an old artist who makes too much money with strange ideas, I will visit this place once more when paying my next visit to Münster.

In two workshops you see the mirrors and a little more of the church
