Photographer's Note

In the times of Napoléon there was no German nation, and Rhine river's left bank was part of France.
German poet Ernst Moritz Arndt called up the Germans to consider the river as "Germany's stream, not Germany's border".
The image (taken from Drachenburg castle) with a view upstream shows that the idea of a midstream border simply does not fit!
