Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
There is nothing romantic or picturesque about my post this morning and it probably won't appeal to many but I hope it is something you will find interesting and unusual.
As always, the photograph is much bigger and better here on Beta.
This was the view from the front of our cruise ship as we left a lock on the Rhine. There was a strange feeling that we would't actually fit through the space!
There was a huge difference in light but I think it's obvious which was the boat, which the lock and which the view into the river!
As a w/s I will add a view of a barge carrying conglomerates, which was next to us in the lock. You can clearly see just how little space existed between the two boats. The captains of each were very skilfull!
I wasn't sure whereabouts on the river this photograph was taken so I have opted for Cologne!
Have a good week, Bev :-)

Both pictures are unusual, Beverley, and showing how life are adjusted to the available conditions, ie the river life: boats and barges built to fit narrow passages like the locks and canals. Frankly, those were the longest barges I'd even seen.
Exceptional two photos, I really like such matterial in photography.
Bravo and a nice new week,
Ike

Hello Bev,
A sensation I clearly remember from our river cruise. These locks are incredibly narrow; you could reach out and touch the sides with no problem at all. Excellent handling of the light and shadow contrasts. Very good technical realisation. Thanks for sharing this, brings back pleasant memories.
Dry and bright here again today, maximum of 18 forecast after a cold start. Long may it last.

Hello Bev,
It seem a lock on the river, between the two ships.
This fits nice as look through with a nice panorama in background.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John

Hello Bev,
This is a somewhat unusual composition, not as immediately spectacular as some others, but not less interesting. I see clearly that the boat is wider than the passage through the lock, but obviously you managed to get through without any damage. Very surprising. ;-) The view through the opening is very nice and the WS is amazing. It takes lot of experience and skill to handle such situations.
Kind regards,
Gert

Bonjour Beverly
J'ai bien l'impression que rendu où il est rendu, le capitaine n'a plus le choix et qu'il doit se serrer les épaules et tenter le passage. Beau point de vue avec une belle vue de l'autre côté.
Amicalement

Hello Beverley,
I would had the same feeling standing on a boat that is going through a lock like this.
Except that I had not gone through a lock. All the boats that I sat in had open spaces to go through.
Nice picture.
cheers,
sam

Hello Bev,
For sure a bit of a tight squeeze. I have been in a similar lock in the Yangzi 3 Gorges and again in the Nile River as it departs the Aswan Dam. An unusual experience to be going either upriver as in Egypt or downriver in China. Tfs!
