Photographer's Note
A Striking Head
This is Adenauer monument in Bonn. Konrad Adenauer (1876 -- 1967) from 1949 to 1963 was the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany - and he was a real personality. This monument is situated in front of Palais Schaumburg, the former seat of the Chancellor. Besides the unmistakable facial features of Adenauer the sculpture on the rear side also shows some of the events in the life of this statesman.
Although his political career spanned sixty years, beginning as early as 1906, he is most noted for his role as the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and chairman of the Christian Democratic Union from 1950 to 1966. He was the oldest Chancellor ever to serve Germany, beginning his first ministry at the age of 73 and leaving at the age of 87. His 14-year tenure was the second-longest for a German Chancellor (behind Otto von Bismarck) until Helmut Kohl passed him in 1996 with 16 years of chancellorship.
From 1917 to 1933 Adenauer was the mayor of Cologne and from 1922 to 1933 president of the Prussian State Council.
In workshop you can see this monument from another angle and its situation in front of the former chancellor's office.

Hello Frank,
A splendid capture of this massive head, which is made to stand out well from the background. The detail is beautifully rendered with excellent sharpness and I like the nuances in the green tones of the aged bronze. Have a good weekend!

It is quite a remarkable portrait, Frank, and shows the character of the man well.Konrad Adenauer, was left to pick up the pieces of Germany after the war, and must take much credit for the sound economy that emerged. You have framed and presented the work well. I don't mind the bottom corner of the plinth being out of the frame, since it is an unimportant part of the image, compared with that powerful head . You don't mention the name of the sculptor, but I have checked and it is Hubertus von Pilgrim, of München and it was installed in May 1982. A very small point, but I don't know why the sky behind of so blue, for me, it distracts slightly from the sculpture. regards kevin

Hallo!
This photo shows at the same time a powerful sculpture and a very good presentation of the great German stateman Adenauer. The photo has good light and sharpness. It seems that you enjoyed very nice weather in Bonn.
The WS, with Schaumburg in background, is also a good photo itself.
Greetings from sunny Portugal,

Hello Frank,
Adenauer was truly a great man of state, which incarnated the hope of the German people and all Europe. The sculpture is faithful to the man. It is an original statue with these other aspects on the back. Framing is good, perhaps a little tight. The light, the colors, clearness are excellent. Cheer.
Have a nice day

Bonjour Frank,
Je trouve cette statue très réussie. Ta photo l'a bien mise en valeur. Comme beaucoup de Français, j'ai beaucoup d'admiration pour cet homme qui a réussi à réconcilier les Français et les Allemands et à construire l'Europe.
Beau travail !
Amicalement

Good evening, Frank.
Monument to the great man who nearly his entire life spent building a modern state. The man who laid the foundations of today's Germany and today's united Europe. Tough negotiator on matters German. Very nicely shown in the monument. Very good used light. Good job in a very good performance.

Hello Frank. How can anyone forget Der Alte". I remember him well. He wsa in command for many years and I believe he was one of the principal leaders that helped Germany recover from the war. I also remember seeing his home on Lake Como many years ago. A summer retreat. Good shot of the statue but I wonder what the writing is on the base of the figure. Good posting for us Trekkies to remind us of the history of your country. Well Done. Have a good week. I hope you are getting some sunshine and warmer weather. 80F here today. I finally broke into wearing shorts today. Kindest Regards, Roger

Hi Frank,
This statue is easily recognizable as Chancellor Aderauer. A very interesting picture, especially with the unavoidable graffiti.
Kind regards

Helmut
