Photographer's Note

Those were the days when steam locos dominated railway traffic.
Days when energy and power were consciously perceivable: heat, motion, noise, steam, dirt.
The engine driver had a very high reputation: it was much more difficult than today to get a train from A to B across hilly terrain without having an unvoluntary stop.
Scan from slide film, capture from railway museum at Bochum-Dahlhausen, September 1985.
Somebody just told me that is a specimen of series 45, the strongest German three-cylinder steam freight locomotive ever built, 2800 HP.
