An Icy Emden

As you can see here, it was pretty cold in Emden during our visit and most of the harbour was frozen over. The part of the Emder Hafen (Emden Harbour) is called the Ratsdelft, which is located near the mouth of the river Ems. It is currently being used as the location of several museum ships. Two of them are seen here, docked at the left hand side: first the Georg Breusing, a Seenotkreuzer (lifeboat), built in 1963 and used around the island of Borkum until 1988 by Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (German Maritime Search and Rescue Service). The other one is the Feuerschiff (lightvessel) Amrumbank, which was built in 1914-15 by the Prussian Ministry of Public Works.
