Photographer's Note

Hamburg has one of the largest ports in Europe.
Each year about 12,000 ships deliver and take on 70 million tonnes of goods here (lonely planet).
I have lived around large ports in the past. Port in Los Angeles (actually Long Beach/San Pedro), third largest in the world is surrounded by areas which are not necessarily attractive or safe.
Strangely Hamburg makes out of its port one of its main tourist attractions. There are numerous boat trips which can take you close to those huge ships loaded with hundreds of containers, where you can feel really tiny. The richest companies are having their headquarters with a view to the port and modern, insanely expensive condominiums are build around the port. Of course another very important Hamburg attraction, red light district, is located very close to port as well.

This particular shot was taken in December.
I am not the first one who tried that. I have seen plenty of similar pictures. What I like about this photo is that it is really cold, showing well the atmosphere of this town.
