Photographer's Note

NSU was a German manufacturer of bicycles, motorbikes and cars at Neckarsulm who merged to form Audi NSU Auto Union AG in 1969 and in 1985 was renamed Audi, thus deleting the NSU abbreviation.
NSU once was the world's biggest motorbike producer.

I stumbled over this bike after a happy family lunch at Tutzing. The pre-war number plate starting with II B indicates a residence in Upper Bavaria and a production before 1945. As far as I can see, this seems a NSU D-201 OSL 1-cyl. engine with 8,5 HP, manufactured between 1933 and 1939.

The owner came and proved to be a real Bavarian "Mannsbild", the prototype of a Bavarian man. He started the engine, showed much appreciation for its roaring noise, and off he went, with a modern license plate behind his butt, of course.
