Photographer's Note

HARBURG CASTLE in...err...Harburg is an extensive mediaeval complex from the 12th century. Originally it was a Staufer castle, now it is owned by the princely House of Oettingen-Wallerstein.

Even better: you can spend the night there (as we did). No luxury lodgings, but surprisingly down to earth, friendly and affordable.

THIS PICTURE is one of several I shot while we were sitting outside in the inner court, waiting for our food to arrive, probably shot in between sips of beer.

As the sun set and the shadows grew longer,
a dark tower slowly crept across the shuttered wall...
