Photographer's Note

Fjord-well-behaved the Königssee is situated embedded between Mount Watzmann, Hagen mountains and Steinernes Meer. Its bank falls steeply off and the cliffs rises not fewer steeply up around the lake . Remarkable is also the elongated form of the sea-basin. In its longitudinal direction the lake measures 7.7 km, its largest width amounts about 1.2 km. With its surface of 5,2 qkm it counts to the smaller Bavarian lakes, with its depth of 185 m it belongs however to the deepest Central European lakes. Thus that differs the king lake very remarkably from the remaining Bavarian lakes, which are throughout in the flat, hilly fore alps and developed before 12000 years under the influence of the last ice age. The Königssee is driven today by electrical boats
