Photographer's Note

The Black Forest can be hiked through along thousands of kilometers of hiking trails. Hiking in the Black Forest is very popular has a long tradition.

The Schwarzwaldverein (Black Forest Society) has maintained a network of hiking trails for more than 140 years, in order to make the beauties of nature accessible to locals and national and international tourists.

And you don't have to start off with a complete long-distance hiking trail with a length of more than 200 km - there are countless local circular hiking trails with a great variety of lengths and levels of difficulty.

I have captured this photo on the Westweg (West Trail) which is running north-south through the Black Forest from Pforzheim to Swiss city of Basel. This trail is around 285 km long, and was founded in 1900.

The West Trail is a part of the European Long-Distance Trail E1 from Norway North Cape to Italian Sicily, more than 5,000 km long!!!
