Photographer's Note

Waidhaus = woad house
Gert (holmertz) was interested in what kind of a gray building is visible in my previous photo. Here is my photo of the whole building.
It is the oldest secular building in Goerlitz, it was built in the 12th century, rebuilt several times, what we can recognize on the various windows.
Its name comes from the dyer's plant, dyer's woad (Isatis tinctoria). The building was, among other things depot of this plant, but also in its long history served as farm building, brewery, school building, storehouse for the dyer's woad plant and corn.
After the renovation 1993-1994 the Waidhaus is a seat of the Monument Academy, training center for crafts and heritage conservation.

Have a nice week!
