Photographer's Note

Every June, some 200km southwest of Paris, a car endurance race is held. 250.000 Race fans from all over the world gather at Circuit de la Sarthe to see race cars go by for an entire day and night in an event called: the 24 hours of Le Mans.

About 50 race cars compete on the 13km circuit. The start is at 16:00 hours on Saturday and the finish is exactly a day later on Sunday. Goal is to go around the track as much times as possible within these 24 hours. The team that completes the most laps wins the race!

The picture you see here is the start/ finish area with the pitboxes on the left. The cars come from the right, where a chicane is positioned. The sound at this location is amazing! You will hear them coming with RAW downshifting just before entering the chicane. Lots of loud banging and flames from redundant fuel that wants to get out of the exhaust. Then half way thru the last corner, just before the straight, they go full throttle and with screaming engines they pass the crowds! The sound echos because of the high crowd-stands left and right. You can feel the vibration in you body and the created adrenaline makes your heart-rate go crazy!!!

I shot a lot of photos and I want to show my love for this event by sharing these on TE in a theme called: The 24. This is number one... Introduction. In the days to come, I will focus on: the crowds, the pilots, the cars, the night, the morning, etc.
