Al fresco in Avignon, a photo from Provence-Alpes-Cote-dAzur, South

Photographer's Note

This is Place des Corps Saints in Avignon. It's a busy little square in the old part of the city, with several restaurants and cafes. We stayed in an apartment a few metres away from it. On a warm autumn night there are many people dining al fresco here. I liked the play of light on the old buildings, and the convivial atmosphere among the diners.

A really nice shot of this lively square at night. The façades are nicely illuminated, which adds a great contrast with the darker areas. Well captured with superb sharpness.

Hello Vincent,

My train got rerouted from Marseilles to Avignon, to Nimes, but I only stopped at the train station and changed trains. 2 people had been killed taking a shortcut through a rail tunnel and threw the entire network of train services in south east France into chaos. Most services were delayed 2 hours. On the plus side the ticket office in Marseilles were great and were able to rebook and reschedule my prepaid ticket to Nimes at no extra cost. Took 5 minutes. Very impressed. The al fresco dining looks similar to what I enjoyed in Nimes. A superb nocturnal shot too. Tfs!

Hello Vincent, It is a bit dark, but it shows a lively atmosphere in the evening in this french square. It must ]have been a great joy to sit there and have supper or just a drink,

Hello Vincent,

You have captured a very lovely, social atmosphere in this photograph. It seems even more poignant, in this present time of social isolation!
The illuminated areas, surrounded by quite deep shadows, focus our attention, particularly on some faces which are captured in the light.

Hi Vincent,
you have well captured the elegant facades of the charming houses and some silhouettes of people enjoying the day out. It all certainly well conveys the romantic evening ambiance.
Personally I regret that it was not taken a bit sooner at the blue hour time when the silhouettes of the roofs would be also present and there would be more details coming from the action at the tables, but it is of course a personal preference.

An atmospheric shot with a cozy terrace in the foreground under the trees and beautiful warm tones of the facades at the back.
Sharp capture with a nice variety of well-lit parts and others more in the dark.
