Photographer's Note

We arrived early at Versailles Palace in order to avoid the crowds and it was a good thing we did. As it turned out, the National Monuments workers across France were working to rule and did not allow access to the palace until 11:00am (it was supposed to open at 9:00am). We waited in line for two and a half hours to buy a ticket. The line in the foreground is for the ticket office while that in the background is to enter the grounds. When we did finally get in, the crowds were horrendous and many parts of the palace remained closed. Quite a disappointment for people who had travelled as far as we had and especially our Aussie friends who had come half way round the world. Vive le France!
