Photographer's Note

The ones who used to frequent Marcel Saupin stadium will today hardly recognize this mythic theatre of Nantes football ! This stadium used to host Football Club of Nantes for decades, it was the place where the club wrote its history, winning 6 France championships, and where the famous "à la nantaise" game was born (Football Club of Nantes had a great reputation in France for its spectaculat football). But in 1984 the Football Club of Nantes moved to La Beaujoire stadium, a modern stadium built for Euro 84, the Football European Nations Championship. From this time Marcel Saupin stadium was used by second team of Football Club of Nantes.

In the last decades the stadium deteriorated and one said it could be destroyed, causing big emotions in the city. Finally from 2006 to 2009 an important restoration plan gave a new life to the stadium. Onmly the north stand was restored. The south stand is today dedicated to research : it hosts a research institute, some accomodation for searchers, a services residency, ... The east stand hosts a car park and some offices. The west side of the stadium is planned to host company headquarters. A walk along the river Loire was also created, and this is where I took this photo from. You can see other view of the new Marcel Saupin stadium as workshops.
