The castle of Angers, known as also the castle of King Rene. (13 images).

Fortress of the 13th century including 17 towers of about thirty meters and enclosure of almost one kilometer built out of schist and fair limestone, residence of the dukes of Anjou at 14th and 15th century. The turns were higher of about ten meters before their levelling at the 16th century.

The castle, famous like one of most impregnable of France, dominates Maine river from a rock headland occupied by the man since the Neolithic era.
The station of alarm installed by the counts of Anjou at the 9th century to make face the threat of Norman, passed under the control of the dynasty of Plantagenêts to the 12th century, and was conquered in 1204 per Philippe II, then became at the 13th century a royal fortress built under regency, of 1226 to 1234, "Blanche de Castille" mother of future king de France Louis IX, said Saint-Louis.

The ditches which never received water are decorated splendid gardens.

The castle shelters the Tapestry of the Apocalypse today, celebrates hanging dating from the Middle Ages, reporting the Apocalypse according to Saint-Jean, ordered in 1373 per Louis 1st of Anjou, and completed around 1382.

The year 2009 is the 600th birthday of the birth of King Rene, Rene 1st of Anjou, known as Good King Rene, "Le Bon Roi René", born on January 16th, 1409 in Angers, duke of Anjou of 1434 with its death, on July 10th, 1480 in Aix-en-Provence, and buried with the cathedral of Angers.

Angers is a French commune, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire of the area of the Pays de la Loire, populated of 151179 Angevins in 1999, distributed out of 44 km ², that is to say 3407 hab./km².

Angers is the prefecture of the department of Maine-et-Loire, and the old capital of Anjou, located at the edge of Maine, close to its confluence with the Loire.
The city is classified with the world heritage of UNESCO.

It is a familiar city of which I have well-known the boarding school of the Chevrollier college and the campus of Belle-Beille, but this is another history...
