Photographer's Note

One more shot from my week end in the Guerlédan lake area in the centre of Brittany. This photos was taken in the west of the lake, on the banks of Nantes to Brest canal. These are the ruins of former Our Lady of Bon Repos abbey. It is one of the most beautiful in Brittany, not only because of its architecture, but also because the place where it was built, in the woody Blavet valley in the Quénécan forest. This cistercian abbey was built in the 12th century but the actual building date from 18th century. The abbey was abandoned after the French Revolution and was used as a stones quarry. But in 1986, an association called "the friends of Bon Repos abbey" decided to restore the abbey thanks to gifts first, then public aids. Since 1987 a few evenings every summer, the abbey hosts a sound and light show. The seats in the foreground are part of the stand from where you can see the show.
