Photographer's Note

Still at the Celtic Nations Great Parade at the interceltic festival of Lorient in Brittany in early august. On my previous shots I had shown you traditional breton costumes, so here is a picture of the invited nation of the 2014 edition : Ireland. This dancing girl is from Rinceoirí Cois Laoi, a dance band from county Cork in the south of Ireland. Irish dance became popular in the mid 90s after a TV show called Riverdance for Eurovision song contest in 1994. Since then, tens of millions people over the world attended irish dance shows such as Riverdance, Lord of the Dance or Celtic Tiger. These shows are inspired by irish traditional dance. But the beautiful coloured costumes are not traditional at all : they were designed in United States between World War 1 and 2.
