Les pêcheries de la baie du Mont St Michel constituent une ligne ininterrompue de palissades en zigzag sur environ quinze kilomètres de Cancale à Cherrueix.
Elles sont toutes construites de la même façon, semblables à un grand V dont la pointe regarde la haute mer. Les deux branches de ce V, appelées "Pannes" forment des murailles de 250 m. de longs clayonnages de branchages d'orme et de bouleau entrelacés, reliant des pieux de chêne solidement enfoncés tous les mètres. Ces pannes s'éloignent l'une de l'autre en formant un angle aigu, leur ouverture vers la terre est d'environ trois cents mètres. Elles aboutissent à la tête de la pêcherie constituée d'un appareil en osier ou branches de saules appelé "bourrache" ou "bâchon".
Les poissons emprisonnés entre les pannes à la marée descendante ne peuvent que difficilement s'échapper par les interstices des claies, de plus en plus serrées à mesure que les deux ailes se rapprochent de leur jonction et ils se retrouvent dans la nasse où les pêcheurs viennent les prendre avant que la mer ne soit complètement retirée.
Cette pêche reste cependant incertaine. Souvent les pêcheurs ne trouvent que de la "crasse", nom utilisé pour désigner le fretin invendable, dont se régalent mouettes et goélands … !

You’ve probably heard of Mont St Michel in Brittany, the « Bouchot » mussels of the Bay and oysters of Cancale !? But what about the fisheries of the Bay ?
They are an endless line of zigzag fence palisades (called “pannes”) on about 15 kms from Cancale to Cherrueix
They’re built as a big “V”, the point of which is turned towards the open sea. The 2 branches of this “V” are 250m long wattle enclosements of intertwined elm and birch branches. The opening of these “pannes” at the other end is 300m wide
Fishes are emprisonned between “pannes” on ebb tide where fishermen come to collect them before total low tide. This kind of fishing is however quite uncertain and sometimes one only finds small fry which makes the diner of seagulls ...!

POV in this image is quite interesting, I have not seen many photos with focus on something in the BG instead of FG, but here it works quite well, nice mood...

Well done Patrick! I love it!

With bird shots like this, you almost expect to see the blurring in the flapping wings etc. and you get that feeling here- however the funny thing is- it's the blurred edge of the foreground 'sticks' which give that feel to the image. Amazing sharpness, I like the DOF, rich yet natural colors- just an overall treat of a shot.

an unusual beautiful image.
love the moment you capture with warm light and color tone.
interesting DOF especially sharpness of birds in focus contrast to blur but clearly background.
the blur foreground also give a unigue style but the two pole quite a little bit distract to the image.
anyway it's good work and beautiful:)

le 70/200 rapproche les différents plans ,ce qui donne une image bien particulière . J'adhère a cette belle ambiance dans la baie du Mont St-Michel .

les couleurs de ce coucher(?) de soleil toutes en noir et gris sont superbes.

Tu as bien fait de faire la mise au point sur ces mouettes. Le ciel d'un très beau rose sert de toile de fond et le premier plan plus flou donne la profondeur.

Very pretty image, I like the shallow DoF, the wood pole blur effect really bring out the sharpness of the birds, even though they are in flight, but they are nice and sharpe, beautiful colors and light. Very good work. I like it.

With the gulls flying around, one can expect the blur effect...but the razor sharp flying birs came a big surprise to me & that indeed is the best part of the picture. The colours are pastel & natural. It's one of the rare shot of yours with no human interest...but it's fantastic!

Hello Patrick. What for a wonderful motive. Composition, colors, contrasts etc. are excellent. The actual picture element are however the sea gulls, - birds of the Gods, as last year a Greek said to me. The photo is very aesthetic and a eyecatcher of first class, - a MASTERPIECE. Mon point de vue pour cette photo-ci...
Les couleurs sont merveilleuses et la netteté des mouettes extrêmement appréciable.
Il y a cependant un élément qui gêne mon oeil et je devrais même dire deux éléments : les pieux en premier plan. J'ai l'impression de voir un rideau devant une scène fabuleuse. Cette photo bénéficiait déjà suffisamment de contrastes grâce aux pieux arrières et aux mouettes. Je serais curieuse de voir quel succès aurait cette photo sans ces deux pieux flous.
"Quand tes photos ne sont pas réussies, c'est que tu n'étais pas assez prêt..."... je viens de lire ces mots dans un DVD...^^ Je pense qu'ils pourraient s'appliquer à cette photo mais ceci est bien-entendu mon sentiment personnel.
