Photographer's Note

This is the highest dune in Europe - le Pyla (Pilat dune, 350 feet, or 106 m, high) in Aquitaine. It is a mountain of pure sand that was formed not so long ago - two centuries or something. From the top of this sand hogback one can see the gulf of Arcachon, the Arguin bank, where oysters are cultivated, and then - the Atlantic Ocean.
This dune is so big that it is nearly impossible to make a shot representing its grandeur unless you make a photo from an observation balloon as the greatest photo master Yann Artus-Bertrand did it. You can find his work here
Of course I can not compete with such a masterpiece but still I will place here some more pictures of this wonderful natural object.
