Photographer's Note

One bridge over the Garonne was built in 1838 by the Seguin brothers. It was destroyed in 1930 by a truck which was too heavy. The current metallic bridge was built in 1932. More details about the Seguin bridge can be found here. Nowadays, this metallic bridge is still useable, although another bridge has been built in 1997 to take into account the main traffic.

The history of the whole country is greatly influenced by the Garonne. The 24th of june 1875, the highest level is reached (11.39m). The president of the republic, the general Mac Mahon, said in Montauban : "Que d'eau ! Que d'eau !".

This picture was taken while the weather was rather cold. In the background, one can see a strong mist. In the foreground, one can see the levels which were reached since the year 1770.
