Photographer's Note

One day, when I was sitting in my residence in Grenoble, France, I stumbled upon this image from Google image search - in fact this is how I found TE. I loved the photo - I decided that before I leave the region, I need to get there.
I first had some trouble understanding where the place is, despite Alain's excellent description. After a bit, I realized that I've been staring at this very cliff for a year out of my window, not realizing there is a fortress on the top. My second problem was getting there without a car - my student budget was all but gone at the end of the year. I got some friends together, and we took the TransIsere bus, which we thought is going to bring us up. Instead, it made a short turn right at the base of the mountain!
It was "le stop" from there - people are really nice in this region, and I found it easy to find a ride each time I went somewhere in Rhone-Alpes (as long as you are part of the mixed group, not just a lone unshaven guy on the road :)).
The view from the top is amazing, you can see much of Grenoble, the valley and the peaks, including the Mont Blanc if I'm not mistaken. It really is a vertical drop of many hundreds of meters, which is a great opportunity for great pics. This is my friend sitting on the edge - of course my shot is nowhere close to what Alain can do, but I still like it :).

The photo in the workshop is me catching the car to go up.
