Photographer's Note

My last post was a view from the Grands Montets lookout near Chamonix. This is the view in the opposite direction, towards the highest mountain in the Alps, Mt Blanc (4810 m). The Grands Montets sits on a rock pinnacle just above the Glacier des Grands Montets, seen in the foreground, at 3295 m (according to one map). The view to glittering Mt Blanc is fantastic from this height. We can just see the bottom of the valley and the town of Chamonix on the right. The Bossons Glacier streams down the mountain towards the valley floor.

If you want to visit here, you need to be a mountain climber. The cable car base was destroyed by a fire in 2018, along with the cables, so there is no easy way to get here now. There are plans to rebuild the cable car system.
