Photographer's Note

Dark mood over the Lake Bourget, that inspired the famous poem "The Lake" by the Franch poet Alphonse de Lamartine, which starts with the words you read in the title.
Funnily enough, I had to comment on this specific poem for my Baccalauréat but I think I did alright so I don't resent the guy!
The Lake Bourget is the largest and the deepest lake located entirely within France.
About the picture itself well, B&W conversion because of the dull light and graduated filters to rescue the sky!

Bonjour Philippe,

Le traitement noir et blanc convient parfaitement et donne une vraie atmosphère à cette photo.
C'est la preuve qu'une photo qu'on croirait un peu décevante à cause de la lumière peut donner quelque chose de très bien en noir et blanc.
La composition me plaît bien, avec ces rocher du premier plan.

I can see how this scenery inspired poetry. You have captured the dark beauty and atmosphere very well here. There is a wonderful sense of balance and good tone. I like the vertical style frame, it is concise and finds the scene well.

Magnifique N/B très nuancé. L'éclairage qui apporte ce filet clair qui partage terre et eau est particulièrement réussi.

To make a impact black and white landscape it must have strong contrasts, your has that, nice and high key. Good choice with the black and white and vertical framing, moody and eerie image.

Effectivement il me semblait bien reconnaitre l utilisation des filtres degradés, notamment avec le beau rendu des nuages.
Le cadrage fonctionne bien aussi.
Un des rochers en premier plan me semble un peu trop clair, mais sur mon ecran de portable, ce n est peut etre pas vrai. A toi de voir.

Lamartine aurait aimé cette prise qui traduit bien la mélancolie du poète. J'aime le premier plan qui s'oppose au calme de l'eau du lac. Le noir et blanc est très réussi.

Mais je ne peux m'empêcher d'imaginer deux images dans ton image:
Une première carrée avec les rochers et le lac
Et une deuxième au dessus avec un cadrage paysage de la colline et du ciel.
