A Few Leaves Left, a photo from Midi-Pyrenees, South

Photographer's Note

Taken exactly one year ago (well, it's the 23 December already here in Melbourne) in the city of Toulouse. Three young women stride out in the hazy morning light of late autumn. This is from the east bank of the Garonne, looking across to the Hotel Dieu St-Jacques, and on the left the first span of the Pont Neuf. The tower behind is that of Le Château d’Eau, which is the home of a very fine museum of photography. Beautiful days like this are a feature of Toulouse at this time of year; I always find the light exceptional and the air still, allowing a few golden dead leaves to remain on the branches.

I wish all on Trekearth a happy Christmas and New Year, and may 2015 bring only good things.

I always seem so busy at Christmas that I haven't been on the site for quite a few days. I'm so glad that I had time to post today, and to catch this fine photograph and message from you.
Your photograph has a lovely balance and delightful light from the low sun. The young ladies add a focus and joie de vivre to the scene.

Hi Andrew. Good to see that you are fine and have decided to pop in. I immediately knew the author of this work as I caught sight of it in its thumbnail format. As I said originally, I love the play of light in this light hearted image and the three friends walking in unison. Nice mood created, particularly by the slightly diffused light in the distance. beautiful light and a fantastic atmosphere. Toulouse seems the place to be in December. Here in Amsterdam it is dark and miserable.

Hello Andrew,
there's a very fine subtlety in this daily life image, the result of an effective combination of several subtle elements. The mild definition of the cityscape, the vibrant curtain of the foliage, the soft, warm light, the fine shadows and the elegant ladies make a wonderful scene. There's great balance among them and they somehow seem connected. It's a timeless scene of transfer with good rhythm and maybe suspense too. Congratulations and thank you!

I love the way the light shines through the edges of the women - being the most attractive element imho, and the natural framing with the trees and branches. This captures and embodies the feeling of late autumnal scene, good tones and full of good mood...
