Photographer's Note

A Courtaou is a summer pasture village. That of Teilhet is located above Campan which is probably the biggest of these summer pasture villages where shepherds once went to spend the summer with their flocks. It is accessed from Campan or from Aste, whatever the starting point, it takes a good two hours. And of course, one can make the ride loop.

Besides the interest of remains of dwellings, a hike that leads to a Courtaou still offers a stunning landscape. The shepherds chose their summer in open areas where they could dominate the valley resorts. The Courtaou of Teilhet has more originality, you can see a snow pit. In fact, this area has no source and there is no flowing stream. By cons, a large bowl for bathers to keep the summer snow that had packed in as falls of winter. This kind of gigantic ice palliated the lack of stream.
