A feudal castle occupied the piton since 10th century and was equipped with a chapel.
The church mentioned in 977 and 1101, initially dedicated to Sainte-Marie and Saint-Pons, preceded the current church which date of the 12th century, altered at the 13th century, 14th century and 19th century.

Saint-Pons-de-Mauchiens is a french commune, located in the department of the Herault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 513 Saint-Ponais in 1999, distributed on 14 km², that is to say 37 hab./km².

The village forms part of these villages of the area called "Circulades" for their made architecture of rings dwellings concentric, and surrounded of ramparts, of which the most probable purpose was to support defense.
