Saint-Jean-de-Cuculles is located about twenty kilometers from the center of the city of Montpellier, in the northwest. The current municipal area extends on the slopes of the massif of the Pic Saint-Loup.

Built around its Romane church, Saint John the Baptist, the birth of the village was around the tenth century. The parish has weathered the test of time (either those of the hundred years war of the fourteenth century, those of the anticlericalism of the nineteenth century or, more recently, the abandonment of the countryside; the past twenty years, village population is growing).
