Photographer's Note

On the esplanade of Europe, facing the "Hotel des Regions" in Montpellier, throne a perfect replica of the famous statue The Winged Victory of Samothrace.

This magnificent marble sculpture dating from the second century BC, and was discovered in 1863 by Champoiseau, in a niche above the sanctuary of the great gods, on the island of Samothrace. It is now kept at the Louvre museum. The right hand was discovered in 1950 but the head has always been missing.
