In Aniane, a traditional, life-size crib, in the closed down church Saint Jean-Baptiste of 12th 14th 16th 17th 18th centuries, called chapel of the White Penitents.

ANIANE is a french commune, located in the department of the Herault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 2 754 Anianais in 2009, distributed out of 30.3 km², that is to say 90.8 hab./km².

The name origin of the ANIANE village, goes back up to 777, when Saint-Benoît, said Saint-Benoît of Aniane, 750-821, founder in 782 of the Aniane abbey, reformer of the Benedictine rule, established his monastery on the banks of a stream which he called "Aniene" in memory of Saint Benoît de Nursie, 480-547, founder of the Benedictine order, who had established his monastery on the "Anio" river banks in Italy.

On the municipality of Aniane territory wee see the Devil's Bridge crossing the HÉRAULT river, which is also in the Saint-Jean-de-Fos municipality, one of the oldest bridge in France built between 1025 and 1031 by the monks of the abbey of Aniane and Gellone. It is located halfway between Aniane Abbey and Abbey of Gellone in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert founded in 804 by GUILHEM, a childhood friend of Saint-Benoît of Aniane.

_ The HÉRAULT is a coastal river of south of France of 160 km length. It takes its source in the department of Gard, in the Solid mass of Aigoual to 1228 m of altitude. It is thrown in the Mediterranean in Agde in the department of Herault. It crosses a catchment area of 2900 km². Its very irregular flow is of 52 m3/s on average annual, but can reach 4000 m3/s at the time of strong risings. After having been a descending torrent of the important slopes, it slips and is boxed in a valley bored in limestones of causses, then is spread out a little in the coastal plain. Its very irregular course and sometimes very violent one is not easy to domesticate. One finds however there some old forgotten mills, built like fortresses to resist the fury of his spectacular risings. The Hérault Description.

The renowned wine of Aniane, is produced on quality soils, of which the actor Gérard Depardieu acquired some hectares which produce a red wine consisted of 36% of syrah, 35% of carignan and 29% of grenache...
