Photographer's Note

Here, as promised, some glance of the archaeological wonders which one can admire on this site of Canonica. The excavations of the site paléochrétien of Mariana Southern,au of the Romance cathedral, are most complete which were carried out up to now in Corsica. These recent excavations, put at the day the bases of a basilica paléochrètienne of the 4 3rd siécle with three naves, with a score of meters only of the church of Canonica; in the vicinity a baptistry is, also of the 4 3rd siécle. The decoration of mosaics and granite columns lets guess the original splendour of the places. The site parâît to have been abandoned after the 8éme siécle, until the new safety of the coast, ensured by Pisans the end of the 11éme siécle, makes it possible to build the Romance cathèdrale which remains today. Friendship to all of you.
