Bonifacio, formerly named Calcosalto (of calco: rock of chalk and somersault: safety), is a French municipality situated in the department of Corse-du-Sud, which holds its name of Boniface II, marquess of Tuscany.

Previously, was extremely mentioned the South of Corsica an antique city called Pallae whose name kept to indicate the strait between Corsica and Sardinia and the campaign around Bonifacio.

His inhabitants are conscripts les Bonifaciens.
