Photographer's Note

French and Dutch have lived side by side on St. Maarten/St. Martin for hundreds of years. The French side of the island has a less frenetic pace, more fashionable shopping. The Dutch side has casino hotels, and more nightlife.

Marigot, capital of the French side, is one of the Caribbean's more charming towns. The marina area is filled with boutiques and shops. But all the stores were closed on the Christmas Day when we were there.

So, we climbed up to the top of the Fort Louis. Fort Louis was completed by the French in 1789. Though not much remains of the structure itself (only few cannons), it was great fun to be on the top for sensational 180-degree vistas of Marigot and most of the French coast.

PS: Why TE is so difficult to be fixed? Successfully uploading a picture is by luck.

Last time I tried, tried, and tried…was out of luck, unable to upload a picture.
