Photographer's Note

Old non digital shot, thus sharpness depends on my scanner capacity...
Nevertheless it looks great and is a memory of our trip at the Island Réunion. This picture is taken in the morning a few hours before the clouds came and hide the volcano as it's so often.

We were waiting for this clearing up for two days, sitting in the unique refuge near this place and waiking up at 5 in the morning watching out for the next almost 2 or 3 hours of clear sky.
It happens finally this morning and we had just the time to climb the volcano to get the panorama and approach the crater and the hearth!!

Concerning this place, the red zone in the front is called the 'Formica Léo' (Lion Ant) and has a strong red color....you've got the impression of beeing on Mars!!
Concerning the volcano, it is still in activity and last erruption was in Septembre 2004.

Little white points on the picture were other waiters...who ran faster then us this morning ;-)

This little Island has an incredible geographic diversity and gave us several surprises along this trip!

Last advice: If you want to have any chance to see the volcano at this period, you should reserve a place at the refuge to be ready as quickly as possible when the weather is temporarly becoming nice. When we've left the crater and the coulds finally came, only then were arriving the cars from the nearest city hoping to see something....it was to late for them and over for the whole day!
