Photographer's Note

An old, authentic boat is passing the Maroni River with its adapted external engine. The driver modified its style too and added a roof to create more comfortable one for protecting the passengers from sun and powerful tropical rains of region. The next shore is small town of Albina / Suriname. Taken from another boat while starting to go same direction with them; From Saint-Laurent du Maroni (French Guyana / French) to Albina (Marowijne / Suriname)

French Guiana (French: Guyane française, officially Guyane) is an overseas department (French: département d'outre-mer, or DOM) of France, located on the northern coast of South America. Like the other DOMs, French Guiana is also an overseas region of France, one of the 26 regions of France, and is an integral part of the French Republic. Like metropolitan France, its currency is the euro. The prefecture is Cayenne. More info is here French Guyana... (UPDATE 1st of April, 2009 : I added this paragraph and changed the title of my photo from "passing river" to "jump to South America from European land" because thought this is more informative)

Maroni or Marowijne (French: Maroni, Dutch: Marowijne, Sranan Tongo: Marwina-Libya) is a river in South America. It originates in the Tumuk Humak Mountains and forms the (disputed) border between French Guiana and Suriname. In its upper reaches, it is also known as the Lawa River, and close to its source it is known as the Marouini River. From Wikipedia...
