Photographer's Note

Paris, spring 2006.
France and most of all its capital knew a big turmoil, students at first, to ask for the cancelling of the CPE (in english, first appointment contract).
Without dxell upon politics, social and economy, just say that the CPE proposed by the Villepin government aimed at imposing a single job contract, much more flexible for the employers.
Then, the youth has reacted very strong. There were barricades in the Quartier latin (as in 1968), (violent) fights with the police and bigger and bigger demonstrations. Indeed, workers of public and private sectors joined the students.
The demonstration of the 4th april was the most important : there were 3 millions people in the streets in France and next to 1 million in Paris (twice less according to the police).
I was in Paris for a professionnal training this day, so I get to the demonstration.
I've never seen so much people in the demonstrations in my little city of Province.
The cortege went from Italy square to Republic square, via Bastille ; when the first arrived to Republic, the last didn't leave Italy (whose that know the Paris geography can see the importance of the demonstration).
6 days after, the CPE was dead.
