Unwrapped

There was enough time last Saturday to explore other parts of Paris as well, including the monument that was wrapped by the same artists in a similar way as has now been done with the Arc de Triomphe. In 1985, Christo and Jeanne-Claude wrapped the bridge Pont Neuf in central Paris in fabric. At first the mayor of Paris, Jacques Chirac, had refused permission for the project, but an aide put the document back into a pile of the mayor’s papers, which Chirac subsequently signed inadvertently. Just as now, the project lasted only a few weeks, during which it attracted three million visitors.

Despite its name, which means New Bridge, Pont Neuf is the oldest bridge across the river Seine in Paris. It stands near the western tip of Île de la Cité.

Hi Lars,Paris was my first foreign destination in my travel history 32 years ago, and it is always a pleasure to see it again. The Pont Neuf is not packed, but certainly they have given a good cleaning to the stones, I did not remember it so immaculate. Excellent perspective and top quality as always. Hej Lars,
Du kom för sent för att hinna se den här bron inlindad i lakan, men det är en fin bro alldeles naken också. Jag antar att när den byggdes fanns det någon annan bro ännu äldre som är borta sedan länge. Det är en snygg bild med vackert grönt vatten och en god exponering i starkt ljus.

Hello Lars, this bridge is quite a contrast to the bridge that you shared recently, traditional in the truest form of the word. It is a lovely bridge, amusing that it’s title is New Bridge when it is the oldest in the city.
Taken from an excellent angle. The bright sunshine highlights all the details.

I looked up "Pont Neuf wrapped" and the images were quite impressive. I don't know what to think of temporary works of art, so much work and it disappears after a while.

Hello Lars,

I cannot imagine why Chirac would refuse to sign permission for the art to be undertaken, when such artistic exhibits attract millions of people to the city!

Without the fabric, the bridge looks great! You have chosen a viewpoint which reveals the repeating arches and the repeating lampposts, all very well suited to creating an excellent sense of depth and perspective.
The buildings are very well placed to complete a fine composition.

Artists have sometimes crazy ideas which as crazy as they are may attract a lot of tourists.

Wonderful view of this famous bridge. I have only made two shorts visits to Paris, and I'm not at all familiar with this view. Excellent angle and I really like the shapes of those arches. A bit pity that backlight caused overexposure of the sky.

Hallo Lars,
Dit is dus de brug van het vroegere project van Christo.
Voor Parijzenaars is twee weken uiteraard voldoende om dergelijk project te bezichtigen maar als buitenlander moet je wel snel beslissen en handelen om het niet te missen.
Vreemd dat Chirac niet besefte voor wel groots project hij eerst geen toestemming gaf.
Het water onder de brug is opvallend groen.
De Pont Neuf is een mooie brug met een heldere lichtgrijze steen.

Excellent angle chosen as POV here, Lars.
The contrast of water colors and the bridge structure. the river current is most notable and altogether a nicectake upon one of Paris crossing point of the Seine.

Back on my trip to the Pre-Pyrenees of Huesca, again with you.

Magnificent composition with this beautiful perspective of the bridge, in which we can admire its powerful foundations within the river, here the stone is very clean, as will the Arc de Triomphe.
Very effective coloring, which highlights the details of the image.
