Photographer's Note

The intersection of two to three barrel vaults produces a rib vault or ribbed vault when they are edged with an armature of piped masonry often carved in decorative patterns; compare groin vault, an older form of vault construction. While the mechanics of the weight of a groin vault and its transmission outwards to the supporting pillars remained as it had been, the new use of rib vaults demonstrates the skill of the masons and the grandeur of the new ideas circulating at the introduction of Gothic architecture in the end of the eleventh century.

Bonjour Philippe,
The view upwards combined nicely the stained glass windows with good backlight management, and a sight with the tall culumns and arches holding a dome type ceiling.
Well execetued photo, sharp and distinct.

One is amazed at the vastness of this architecture constructed in an age when everything had to be done by hand. The excellent upwards point of view shows the craftsmanship that has gone into the vaulting whilst also encompassing the glorious stained glass windows. Very good technical realisation.

I love the bottom-up approach of your picture. It shows perfectly one of the main ideas of the Gothic architecture: The verticalism with as much element pointing at God in heaven.
Your picture shows beautifully the ceiling and the stained glass windows.

Bonjour Philippe,

Formidable contre plongée. Tout pousse le regard du spectateur vers le haut. Toutes les colonnes poussent vers le centre. Et en plus, les vitraux qui apportent lumière et couleurs.

I like these UPwards pov's, they create alot of visual drama and its a view our eyes do not usually see so it captures our attention. the large arched windows are a colourful addition. thanks for this one

This shows an interesting view of the interior of the church, one of the pleasant surprises that one gets looking up. I can see some colored light falling on some of the columns, a pleasant ambience thanks to the stained glass windows..
