in the Turku Old Great Square
30 th June – 3 rd July 2005

The Old Great Square is the oldest market place in Turku and in Finland. Hundreds of years ago, merchants from all over Finland and even outside the Finnish borders gathered on the banks of the Aura River. Regardless of their social class or wealth, people came from far and wide to trade at the most important market in the country. In addition to the trading, people enjoyed a great variety of entertainment and activities offered by the market.

This medieval market atmosphere has been re-enacted in Turku for the past nine summers. This summer the Medieval Market event that reconstructs history celebrates its 10 th anniversary right after the Midsummer festivities, beginning at the end of June. Once again, attendance is expected to number in the tens of thousands with more than 100 craftspeople offering their products in the Old Great Square.
