Keskustori Tampere

Almost seven years ago I visited Finland, but I have only posted one Finnish photo so far. Time to change this. This is a photo from the centre of Tampere, a city, which Kari has also shown on TE. We were staying five days in Helsinki, but rented a car the last day and drove to Tampere among other places.

Tampere is the largest city in Finland outside the Greater Helsinki area and the largest inland city in Scandinavia with about 230,000 inhabitants. Tampere was founded in 1775 as a market place on the banks of the Tammerkoski channel by King Gustav III of Sweden. Seen here is Keskustori (Central Square), home to the City Hall and the Tampereen Teatteri (Tampere Theatre), which is in this photo. The tower at left is part of the Vanha Kirkko (Old Church).
