Photographer's Note

During this winter (2009-10), art created by nature has been a part of everyday life. These kind of snow-covered trees does not usually exist here in Tampere region. I guess it needs an ideal temperature and certain kind of show which sticks to the branches and doesn't let go.

We have several expressions in our language for various types of snow. Basic word for snow is "lumi" and the kind of snow that does get packed covering the tree is called "tykkylumi". At least in my dialect "tykky" by itself means something like solid or unyielding. This kind of snow is actually as dangerous as it is beautiful, since it usually means that some of the trees cannot cope with the extra weight and they might snap broken in the middle and fall down. Now, if you happen to reside under such tree, you propably won't be found before spring. You might be tempted to help some younger trees that have been curved because of the extra weight by shaking them but they might hurt you, too. Consider them as a tightened bow waiting to release the arrow (=you).
