Photographer's Note

Even the mannequins are people-watchers in Copenhagen ~ especially on Strøget, Copenhagen's famous walking/shopping street and the longest pedestrian shopping area in Europe.

Strøget was created in November 1962 when cars were beginning to dominate Copenhagen's old central streets. Controversial at first, because some people believed the Danes did not have the mentality for "public life" envisioned by such a street. It was a big success, however, and the area has been expanding block by block ever since.
